The Best Plant Oils You Need In Your Skincare

The beauty of nature is so fascinating.  The lush greenery, the calming ocean waves, the magnificent mountains.  But what's most interesting, is the natural healing properties of herbs, oils and butters.  Mother Nature is truly amazing.

WENVIA was created out of frustration to find a healthier alternative to skincare.  And creating skincare formulations made from plant-based ingredients was the ideal solution.  The world has become fast-paced, manufactured and over-engineered.  I felt it was time to uncomplicate matters and focus on the basics.  And when it comes to skincare, it was important to re-introduce simplicity and truly get back to nature.

That is why part of WENVIA's values is to offer simple ingredients that are easy to pronounce so you know exactly what goes into every product and more importantly, onto your skin.

Plant-based products are a great all-natural alternative to commercial options found in the 'big box' store as our products are not only non-toxic, but also full of beneficial properties like vitamins and minerals to treat and nourish the skin.  Plant ingredients are suitable for all skin types and absorb beautifully.

Let's explore many of the plant-based oils used in WENVIA products: 

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is a staple ingredient for many WENVIA products, especially our soap bars.  This oil is a key ingredient in our soap bar formulation as it's highly cleansing, produces fluffy lather, is antimicrobial offering skin healing properties, is rich in vitamin E and also produces hardness to the soap bars for a longer lasting experience.  Coconut oil is known to hydrate the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, protect the skin from external stresses, and soothes inflammation. 

Olive oil

Olive oil is another star ingredient in our soap bars, as it is high in vitamins, lipids, and antioxidants, all of which can improve the overall appearance of your skin.  It is extremely hydrating by trapping in moisture, and its antioxidants may aid in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.  Olive oil is high in oleic acid, which helps to condition and soften the skin.

Avocado oil

Avocado oil adds wonderful conditioning properties to our soap bars, which helps soften and moisturize the skin.  Avocado oil contains a high content of vitamin A, D & E, as well as minerals like potassium, which aids in the formation of new skin cells helping to keep the skin soft and supple.  Our Coffee Mint soap bar is made with this nourishing oil and truly provides a creamy lather like no other.

Rice bran oil

Known for its ability to cleanse, soften, soothe and smooth the skin, rice bran oil is a great ingredient to use in skincare.  It is high in vitamins B and E, which is known to prevent signs of aging, prevent hyperpigmentation and moisture loss from the skin.  Rice bran oil also contains squalene, which is known to protect the skin, yield amazing moisturizing properties and regulates the production of sebum which is also found in human skin. Our Detox soap bar is formulated with this wonderful oil which also makes it ideal as a facial cleanser.

Castor oil

This glorious oil is known around the world to soften and soothe skin, ease aches and pains, and also repair hair.  Castor oil soothes skin inflammation caused by dry skin or acne and may help reduce the signs of aging.  It's natural humectant properties helps lock in moisture making this oil highly moisturizing.  This is one of the reasons castor oil is a main ingredient in our Lip Therapy Balms.  It is also a key ingredient in our soap recipe as it provides a rich and creamy lather.

Sweet Almond oil

Sweet almond oil an excellent plant-based ingredient as it provides a multitude of beneficial properties and is used in many of WENVIA's skincare formulations.  Its ability to moisturize and soothe dry, chapped skin, is why it's included in our Lip Therapy Balms.  Its quick absorption rate made it ideal to add to our serums like our Beard Oil and Rose Glow Facial Serum.  Its ability to keep the skin hydrated, supple and smooth is why it's included in our Luxurious Hand & Body Lotions.  And sweet almond oil's ability to produce a rich conditioning lather in soap is why it's used in many soap recipes.

Our Rose Glow Facial Serum was created with a number of skin-loving oils that quickly absorb into the skin.  The following plant-based oils add to this serum's luxurious texture and provides outstanding properties:

Rosehip oil

Regarded as the 'Oil of Youth', rosehip oil's thin consistency allows for quick absorption without leaving any oily residue.  It also has skin brightening properties to help lighten unwanted dark blemishes.  Its ability to accelerate skin regeneration, soothe dryness and inflammation, make this oil ideal for any facial skincare product.

Evening primrose oil

Referred to as the 'King's Cure-All' oil, evening primrose helps to soothe and moisturize the skin while also improving the skin's texture and elasticity.  It also addresses dryness, irritation, roughness and wrinkles.  Its rejuvenating properties helps to enhance your skin's complexion and bolster its radiance.

Jojoba oil

Did you know that jojoba oil is not an oil at all?  It's actually a liquid wax ester that closely resembles the sebum found in human skin.  These properties are key reasons why this luxurious ingredient was a must-have in our facial serum and beard oil.  Jojoba oil is a natural humectant which helps to keep the skin hydrated by attracting water to the top layer of the skin.  This may aid in the prevention of bacterial infections, acne, and dandruff.
