Small Business Spotlight | Winnie’s Elderberry Goods

Tell us about you and your company.

My company is called Winnie’s Elderberry Goods. It started in 2019 as a solution for my own children to have a homemade great tasting elderberry syrup. When my kids would get sick, I’d give them elderberry syrup but they didn’t like the taste of the store bought brands, and I tried several!  I decided to start making my own and sell it to my family and friends. Within a matter of weeks the word got out and I had an unbelievable amount of customers, so we decided to turn it into a business!

What inspired you to start your business and what drives your passion for it?

My kids’ health was my inspiration.  I am a “crunchy” mom so I’m very aware of ingredients in our foods and products we use. I knew elderberry syrup had great benefits I just wanted to make one that tasted delicious and was a better version for them. Knowing that so many parents have our bottle in their fridge and give it to their own children is a huge honor and motivation.

What makes your business unique and sets it apart from competitors?

We are very serious about the quality of ingredients we use, the kitchen process we strictly adhere to when producing our products and we offer excellent customer service. As a stay-at-home mom that also worked in customer service for many years, I strongly believe my work experience equipped me to uphold very strong values in my own business.

Can you share more about the benefits of elderberry?

Elderberry syrup is most known to help during cold and flu season. It does a really great job of safely lowering fevers and reducing symptoms. It's also great for seasonal allergies, aids in constipation, heart health, acts as a natural diuretic and can help lower blood sugar.

We use all organic ingredients and local raw honey to make our product.  It truly is the ultimate immune support hero!

How do you handle setbacks or failures, and what lessons have you learned from those experiences?

I have a great support system called my husband!  When I have any stresses, concerns or have made mistakes he is my fixer upper. He helps me find solutions and reassures me of my purpose.

What is on the horizon for your small business?

We are hoping to gain more retailers. Our business is currently doing great with shipping our products throughout the United States, but we'd like our products to be easily available to our local customers.

What is your definition of self-care?

Finding something that brings you peace and allows you to connect with your true self.

What do you do for self-care?

The GYM! I can't live without going to the gym. It's my way to escape my homeschool mom life and have some great time to myself while taking care of my body.

How can people get to know more about what you’re doing and where can they find you?

You can find us on Instagram and Facebook!

We can also be reached via DM or email for any questions and you can visit our website to learn more about our products and ordering.

Elderberry and I go way way back. As a child I was asthmatic. My Great Grandmother grew elderberry bushes and made elderberry teas, jams, and tonics. I think that is what kept me going all the years (75 years old). I’m currently ordering from another company. Their shelf life for their elderberry tonic is two months. If there is left over I make ice cubes with it! That being said, I will try your product out and compare it to my current supplier. Wishing you all the best.
